  • Description: The Assembly in the Jerusalem Chamber, Westminster Abbey, Cromwell seated in the centre amongst the Independents.

    Painted in about 1847-8, no doubt inspired by the tercentenary of the Westminster Assembly. The painting is said to include a 'portrait' of Dr Thomas Goodwin, one of the Independent leaders and the founder of the City Temple.
