Clock Tower tour

The Clock Tower is the name of the famous tower of Parliament - more popularly known as Big Ben. UK residents can arrange a tour through their local MP. However, please be advised that space is extremely limited and early booking, 3-6 months in advanced, is strongly recommended. Overseas visitors cannot currently visit the tower.

Isn't that Big Ben?

Yes. Although often referred to as Big Ben, this is actually the nickname of the bell housed within the Clock Tower - and Big Ben's official name is the Great Bell.

The tour

Tours are at set times of 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 2.30pm Monday - Friday with a max number of 16 people per tour.

During the 150th anniversary year demand for tours is expected to be high. Therefore, preference will be given to those with a proven interest in clocks, watches and bells.

Visitors to the Clock Tower will be shown up by a guide, who will outline the history of the tower, the bell and how the most accurate public clock in the world works.

Tours of the tower are free and open to UK residents who have requested a visit through their local MP. Children under the age of 11 are not permitted. Tours for overseas visitors are currently not permitted.

Please note that it is not possible to queue on the day to tour the tower - advance bookings must be made through your MP.

Where do I go on the day?

Parties should gather in the foyer of Portcullis House fifteen minutes before their tour begins. Unfortunately, late comers will not be able to join the tour, therefore it is essential that visitors are prompt. A tour takes about 75 minutes and visitors should feel confident in their health and fitness - please read our health and safety information before booking a tour.
