This is an amendment to the House of Lords Bill 1988-89 moved by the late Lord Weatherill. This Bill sought to abolish the right of hereditary peers to sit and vote in the House of Lords. Lord Weatherill's amendment allowed for 92 hereditary peers to remain in the Lords. It was passed and became section 2 of the House of Lords Act 1999.
