Point of order

This is basically an appeal to the Chair or Speaker for clarification or for a ruling on a matter of procedure in the House of Commons. However, it is frequently used by MPs who want to interrupt proceedings to raise other issues which may be different from the one under consideration. MPs who believe that a breach of the rules of the House of Commons has occurred, or who want clarification on the rules, stand up and say "Point of Order, Mr Speaker". The point of order should then be stated and the Speaker gives a ruling on the interuption.
