Frontbench (Frontbencher)

The term 'Frontbencher' is used to describe either a Government minister or Opposition shadow spokesperson. This comes from the seating arrangements in both Houses: the leaders of the Government and the Opposition sit on the frontbenches, with their supporters, or 'backbenchers', sitting behind them.
