Devolution is the decentralisation of governmental power. The most recent examples of devolution are the setting up of the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and the Northern Ireland Assembly. The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is taking forward the Government's proposals on regional governance in England, including directly elected regional assemblies.
