Children, Schools and Families Committee
The Children, Schools and Families Committee was established on 6 November 2007 and membership nominated on 8 November 2007. The formal remit of the Committee is to examine the administration, expenditure and policy of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The Committee's remit also covers the work of Ofsted and non-departmental public bodies.
Reports, evidence and press notices from the former Education and Skills Committee can be found on its website. The new Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee will be responsible for scrutinising the work of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, including further education, higher education and skills.
Some examples of areas which fall within the Committee's remit are given below, although this list is not comprehensive:
- Early Years, Sure Start, Children's Centres, childcare and some aspects of family policy
- Schools, colleges and other education services
- Looked-after children
- Workforce reform in the education and care sector
