Role of the UK Delegation to the European Security and Defence Assembly

Members of the UK Delegation to the European Security and Defence Assembly attended the Assembly’s Plenary sessions (twice a year, in June and December) and participate throughout the year in its committee meetings, conferences and colloquies.

The UK was represented on each of the Assembly's committees. Each committee is appointed from among its members Rapporteurs, who drafted reports and recommendations for the committee on security and defence issues. After consideration first of all by the committee and then by the Assembly in Plenary, Assembly Recommendations were sent to the Council of the Western European Union (WEU), which was obliged to give written replies. Parliamentarians also put questions to the WEU Council.
