Commons Library open day 2017 for librarians and information officers

View of the Commons Library

The House of Commons Library open day 2017 will enable librarians and information officers to visit and hear about the professional and impartial information and research service for Members of Parliament and their staff provided by the Library to MPs and their staff.

This is a full-day event that includes: talks and presentations by Library staff, a short tour of Parliament and a very rare opportunity to see the Members’ Library.

You can find out more information about the Library and what we offer MPs and their staff at

The Open Day is on Wednesday 15th February 2017. Further details of timings and security arrangements will be provided to successful applicants.

The open day is specifically aimed at people currently working as information professionals, including:

  • Librarians
  • Information Officers/Advisors/Analysts
  • Knowledge Management Officers
  • Researchers

As there are a limited number of places available, we aim to offer places from a wide range of people currently working across the different library and information sectors.

The cost of the open day will be £35 and will include refreshments and lunch.

To register your interest, please complete the application form and submit it by 18th November 2016

Successful applicants only will be informed by 5th December 2016.

Successful applicants will be notified and sent an email to confirm their place and make the payment by either a credit or debit card.

Unfortunately, completing the application form does not guarantee you a place due to popular demand in previous years.

If you do not hear from us by 5th December, please assume that we have not been able to offer you a place.

If you do not fall within the categories listed above but are interested in visiting Parliament, further information is available on the Visiting Parliament web page.

Visits will enable you to attend debates and watch committee hearings, tour the buildings, or climb the famous Elizabeth Tower and see Big Ben.

Parliament has developed a series of virtual tours for you to explore some of its famous buildings and learn about the work and history of Parliament.
