CPA UK seminars aim to build the capacity of new parliamentarians and officials and provide an overview of the governance systems at Westminster, in the devolved assemblies, and in Europe more broadly.
The Westminster Seminar on Parliamentary Practice and Procedure
Now in its 61st year, the Westminster Seminar is CPA UK's oldest running programme. The 5-day seminar explores recent developments in parliamentary practice and procedures within a Westminster framework. It is a unique programme for CPA UK as it brings together parliamentarians, clerks and for the first time in 2010 Serjeants at Arms.
Through discussion sessions with UK Members and senior Westminster officials, workshops and constituency visits, delegates are exposed to a wide-range of issues that help to build their professional capacity and enhance their understanding of the challenges facing their Commonwealth colleagues.
62nd Westminster Seminar (17-21 June 2013) & 3rd Westminster Workshop: The Public Accounts Committee (24-27 June 2013)
61st Westminster Seminar (5-9 March 2012) & 2nd Westminster Workshop: The Public Accounts Committee (12-15 March 2012)
60th Westminster Seminar (6-12 March 2011)
59th Westminster Seminar (7-19 March 2010)
The International Parliamentary Governance Seminar
The two-week CPA UK Governance Seminar gathers international delegates to explore different issues around the process of governing-whether within their own countries, in the UK, in Europe or internationally.
The programme includes discussions with UK Members, MEPs and subject experts from key organisations and academic institutions. To provide delegates with a comprehensive programme, sessions take place in Westminster, Brussels, a devolved legislature in the UK, and locally at city councils and in constituencies.
