Outward delegation to Sri Lanka

From the 16-23 October CPA UK facilitated a Westminster delegation of 9 parliamentarians to visit Sri Lanka

The delegation allowed UK parliamentarians to learn about the successes and challenges of their Commonwealth colleagues and enabled them to share their own professional and personal experiences.

The cross-party delegation of 6 MPs and 3 Peers met with parliamentarians, civil society organisations, and community and business leaders to discuss a number of issues including:

  • Poverty reduction
  • Post-conflict rehabilitation
  • International trade and investment
  • Climate change
  • Health and sanitation

The delegation also visited UK investments first-hand including: the ‘Connecting Classrooms’ British Council project; the climate-friendly Brandix apparel factory which is lead manufacturer of Marks & Spencer clothing; and the MillenniumIT which provides technology services to the London Stock Exchange Group.
