From 20-26 February 2011 the Parliament of New Zealand hosted a UK delegation of Members of Parliament and Lords
With the aim to discuss issues of mutual interest, the topics of focus included electoral reform, coalition government, and climate change in the South Pacific.
The terrible earthquake struck Christchurch as the second part of the programme was to take place on the South Island, so a short-notice programme in Auckland was put in place, looking at education and the film industry in New Zealand.
Although much of the trip was coloured by the tragedy of the earthquake, it enriched rather than spoilt the trip and delegates felt that they returned home with a deep understanding of what it means to be both a New Zealander and a parliamentarian in New Zealand.
