From 27-29 January 2012 three UK women Members participated in a three-day seminar in Naivasha, Kenya with members of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA)
Deputy Speaker Rt Hon. Dawn Primarolo MP, Rt Hon. Baroness Corston and Pauline Latham OBE MP ran a programme which broke down the constituent roles of parliamentarians with sessions beginning with presentations and case studies from UK and Kenyan MPs followed by extensive discussions and information exchange.
With parliamentary elections due in Kenya before March 2013, the Seminar was timely in considering the implications of major constitutional changes in Kenya and issues pertaining to the impending elections and the post-election political environment. Further activity in this programme is planned for after the election.
The successful seminar followed and consolidated on the success of a visit to Westminster of women MPs from Kenya in January 2011.
