Parliamentary Studies module

In September 2012 a new Parliamentary Studies higher education module was launched as part of the services and resources made available by the Houses of Parliament for universities.

The Parliamentary Studies module will now be rolled out to a small number of selected higher education institutions (HEIs) to deliver from 2013/14.

This module is approved and co-taught by staff at the Houses of Parliament and has the support of The Speaker and the Clerk of the House in the House of Commons, and the Lord Speaker and the Clerk of the Parliaments in the House of Lords.

Parliamentary Studies module details

Parliamentary Studies aims to provide students with a detailed knowledge of how Parliament works (in both theory and practice) and with the capacity to situate this knowledge against an understanding of similar institutions and against a set of broader themes and issues.

Delivery of Parliamentary Studies is based on a partnership between the Houses of Parliament and the HEI, with the HEI providing academic and theoretical content and Parliament providing practical and vocational teaching about the work, processes and business of Parliament.

Application process and deadline

The application pack, containing full details of the module, criteria for delivery and the application form to be completed, is available to download.

Application pack: Parliamentary Studies module delivery, 2013-2014 (DOC DOC 179 KB)

We welcome applications to deliver the module from HEIs anywhere in the UK.

The deadline for completed applications has now passed.

Completed forms should be sent by email to Naomi Kent, Parliamentary Outreach Officer, at kentn@parliament.uk.

Applications will be judged by a panel of staff from the Houses of Parliament, the module author and a representative from the Study of Parliament Group.
