Resources for Universities

The Houses of Parliament now provides services and resources aimed at staff and students from universities across the UK.

Delivered by Parliamentary Outreach, these have been developed to assist universities and support lecturers and tutors in accessing information about the processes, business and work of the Houses of Parliament.

These include:

  • Tailored lectures and tutorials on any aspect of the work, business and processes of the institution of Parliament, delivered at a place and time convenient for your students. To arrange a session at your university, please contact the Outreach Officer for your region
  • Open lecture series, delivered by senior figures from within Parliament, focusing on a different aspect of Parliamentary procedure at each event. These lectures are free to attend, and places are available on a first come first serve basis, so please book early.
  • The Training the Trainer programme for any tutors or lecturers who would like to access and deliver Parliament's approved quality training, using comprehensive and flexible resources.
  • Teaching resources provided by Parliament's Outreach Service, including presentations and case studies, that can be used in lectures and tutorials; for access to these materials, please contact us.
  • Speakers for events at your university on aspects of Parliamentary business and procedure; these speakers may be Parliamentary staff or Parliamentarians. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
  • Partnership opportunities for any university who would be interested in working with Parliament's Outreach Service. To find out more and/or express your interest, please contact us.

The following Parliamentary resources and services may also be of interest to university students and tutors:

Research briefings

Research briefings can be a valuable source of topical analysis and information for researchers, students and tutors.

They are produced within Parliament by the House of Commons Library, the House of Lords Library and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) and are available online.

Tours of Parliament

A visit to Parliament can be an interesting experience for students, helping to bring theoretical learning to life. Free guided tours are available throughout the year by requesting a place through your MP or a member of the House of Lords.
