Arts in Parliament

New Views

In partnership with New Views, the National Theatre's annual playwriting competition, Arts in Parliament is delighted to bring the world premiere of a new play that puts the younger generation’s perspective to the heart of democracy in the UK: the Houses of Parliament.

New Views is the National Theatre’s annual playwriting programme for 15 - 19 year old students. Working with 35 schools and colleges across England, the National Theatre has created a network of young playwrights and, in collaboration with Arts in Parliament, given students the opportunity to write their own 30 minute one-act plays exploring challenging issues from contemporary society.

The competition-winning one-act play has two performances with a professional cast in the unique setting of Westminster Hall on 11 July 2012 - the first recorded instance of a play being staged in the space. There will be a further two opportunities to see the play at The Pop-Up Workshop as part of National Theatre Inside Out on the South Bank on 12 and 13 July.
