Description

This lesson plan for students aged 14-16 introduces students to the many different forms of government
(communist, democratic, federal, local, monarchy, capitalist etc) and provides them with a basic understanding of the central principles and key differences between them.

Learning outcomes

All students should:

  • know that the UK operates as a constitutional monarchy and that this means it has an elected government which acts to limit the control of the monarch.
  • know that different countries may have different forms of government, some of which are more democratic than others.

Most students should:

  • be able to give at least two examples of other types of government beyond the UK and evaluate these in terms of how democratic they think they are, giving a justification for their answer.

Some students should:

  • be able to give many different examples of types of government beyond the UK and evaluate these in terms of how democratic they think they are, giving a justification for their answer.
