The ‘Find out about Parliament’ series, is an introduction to the work of Parliament through activities, stories and imagery, for pupils aged 5-8.
There are two other themes to explore in this series:
Each theme in the series includes a teachers’ booklet, a story presentation and a poster pack.
The resources have practical and accessible ideas to get pupils thinking about how they make decisions in a group, why asking questions is important and what it means to represent other people. Younger pupils will enjoy listening to the stories which explore each theme in a familiar context, while the poster pack provides a stimulus to extend pupils’ understanding of each concept and how it relates to Parliament.
The Find out about Parliament: What does representing mean? pack can be used in English, PSHE, Citizenship and SMSC.
It introduces pupils to the concepts of:
- Acting on behalf of someone else or being a voice for other people
- Listening to different points of view and ideas
- Representing the views of a group of people
- Respecting other people’s point of view
- MPs in Parliament being representative for their local communities
