Free citizenship resources
Schools Question Time has produced resources to support the citizenship curriculum, including toolkits on Politics and Parliament and Communication Skills. You’ll also find resources on how to run a Question Time-style event at your school.
About Schools Question Time
The aim of Schools Question Time is to help schools improve students' speaking and listening skills and to engage young people in society and politics.
Schools Question Time is supported by the Institute for Citizenship, the BBC and Parliament’s Education Service.
SQT 2010
Every secondary school in the UK is eligible to take part in the SQT challenge 2010 or make use of a set of free teaching resources designed to support the citizenship curriculum.
About the 2010 challenge
The challenge has four phases:
- Phase one
Schools are invited to submit written applications outlining their ambitions for a Question Time-style event in their school. Deadline: now passed
- Phase two
Regional finalists from phase one are invited to film a school debate for submission. Deadline: now passed
- Phase three
Regional winners have the chance to organise and put on a Question Time event at their school, with the support of professional workshops and advice.
- Phase four
Four national winners are awarded and two students from each winning school will help produce a special schools edition of Question Time to go out on BBC One in July 2010.

Winning schools staged a Question Time event and were judged, along with 11 others across the UK, in various categories including citizenship skills, creativity and project management.

SQT 2009
Schools were invited to apply to the Schools Question Time Challenge for an opportunity to run their own Question Time-style event.
About the challenge
Winning applications were selected in January 2009 and each regional winner received a full day workshop on political literacy and communication skills from Parliament's Education Service, as well as an award to the value of £250 from the Institute for Citizenship to run a Schools Question Time event.

Each of the four winning schools nominated two pupils each to assist the BBC’s production team in making a special youth edition of the programme that went out on BBC One on 9 July 2009.

10 July -- Student Suzanne Burlton was the audience favourite and won high praise from her fellow panellists on BBC 1's Question Time.
