FUTURE OF RAIL FRANCHISING CONSULTATION

That this House recognises that a consultation was held on the Future of Rail Franchising by the Department for Transport prior to the2010 generalelection; notes that this consultation proposed giving train companies financial incentives to cut train services; further notes that this could encourage companies to run down or cut socially necesssary services which do not make much money; is concerned that this consultation was deemed only to be of technical interest; and asks that any further proposals be made public to allow passengers the chance to comment.
