90th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

That this House congratulates the Royal British Legion on its 90th anniversary in 2011; notes that, out of the horrors of The Great War of 1914 to 1918, The British Legion was formed from four separate ex-Service organisations with the first official poppy day held on 11 November 1921 and was honoured with the Royal title in its 50th anniversary year of 1971; recognises that throughout the past 90 years The Legion has honoured the men and women who fell during two world wars and other conflicts, including recent and current ones; welcomes the wide range of support which is provided by dedicated people, both volunteers and professionals, to whom the House pays tribute, to all who have fulfilled such roles over the past 90 years; agrees that the work of The Legion is as vital as ever, with almost 10 million people eligible for its help, and for furthering the importance of the Military Covenant; and urges all hon. and Right hon. members to support The Royal British Legion's 90th anniversary appeal to raise 90 million to help fund its ongoing work and the creation of a battle back challenge centre for young men and women who return home from Afghanistan with serious injuries.
