HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2011

That this House notes that on Thursday 27 January 2011, the UK will mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the 66th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in human history; further notes that the theme forHolocaust Memorial Day 2011 will be Untold Stories, which provides an opportunity to reflect upon extraordinary experiences of loss and survival during the Holocaust and the immense courage of Holocaust survivors; pays tribute to the survivors who work tirelessly with the Holocaust Educational Trust in order to share their testimony in schools around the country; values theHolocaust Educational Trust 's Lessons from Auschwitz project, which takes thousands of post-16 students and teachers from across the UK toAuschwitz-Birkenau each year; congratulates the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust for organising this year's national Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations; further notes thata Book of Commitment will be placed in the corridor between the Members' Cloakroom and Members' staircase between the hours of 14.30 and 16.30 from Monday 17 January until Thursday 27 January 2011; and strongly encourages all right hon. and hon. Members to sign the book and to participate in this important day to ensure that the Holocaust and its lessons are understood by future generations.
