UK FRESH PRODUCE INDUSTRY

That this House notes with pride the consistent quality of the UK's fresh produce industry; acknowledges that British farmers produce fruit and vegetables that are second to none in terms of taste, quality and value for money; recognises that it is imperative that the industry is supported to enable it to be maintained and developed; requests the Government to take steps to allow farmers to plan confidently for the future by supporting access to labour schemes such as the new Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme and by encouraging British nationals to take up seasonal work; and calls on the Government to ensure all measures are taken to enable British farmers to continue to compete and to thrive at the forefront of world food production.
