90th ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE ACT 1918

That this House notes that 6th February 2008 is the 90th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 which granted women the right to vote and be elected to Parliament; recognises what women have achieved in politics since the Act; congratulates all women who have taken their seats as Members of the House of Commons over the past 90 years; but notes that more progress must be made to enhance the role of women in our Parliamentary democracy; and believes that the 90th anniversary of women's suffrage is an opportunity to promote further discussions about how to improve the role of women in politics in the UK and internationally.
