That this House notes the imminent removal of the image of Britannia from the fifty pence coin; recognises that this symbol of Britain first appeared on a British coin, the copper farthing, in 1672 under Charles II and has been present ever since; and calls on the Government to understand the modern importance of historic symbols and to ensure that Britannia is not removed from British coins and that the uninterrupted presence of Britannia over 336 years is not broken.
