NEWSQUEST PENSION SCHEME

That this House notes with concern plans by US newspaper publisher Gannet, which owns hundreds of newspapers in the UK, to seek to shift the burden of its final salary pension scheme on to staff thereby threatening to undermine support for the scheme; further notes that the company's UK operation made £120 million in 2006-07; and calls on the company to use a proportion of those profits to protect the current pension provision of the scheme's 9,000 members.
