PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO ICL/STOCKLINE EXPLOSION, GLASGOW

That this House supports the call by the ICL/Stockline Support Group for a full and comprehensive public inquiry into the explosion at the ICL/Stockline factory in Glasgow on 11th May 2004 that resulted in nine workers tragically losing their lives and more than 40 others being seriously injured; notes that this explosion was the worst industrial accident in Scotland for 20 years and has raised many questions about current health and safety regulation and enforcement throughout the United Kingdom; believes that only an open public inquiry will provide a full explanation of the causes of the deaths and injuries and bring about the changes that can prevent the recurrence of such a tragedy; and urges the Government to call upon the Scottish Executive to hold such an inquiry at the earliest appropriate time.
