THE BRITISH NUTRITION FOUNDATION

That this House is concerned by the role of the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) in advising Government on a wide range of trade and health related issues, including vending, educational resources for schools, the balanced diet, sugary drinks, extra curricular school activities, the national curriculum, school meals, vocational qualifications, food labelling, nutrient profiling, irradiation, the future of agriculture and genetically modified foods; acknowledges that Government contributes to their funds but also notes that the BNF is a predominantly industry-supported charity whose members include McDonalds, Coca Cola, Northern Foods, Nutrasweet, Kraft, Cadbury-Schweppes, Kelloggs, Nestle, Sainsbury, Asda and Procter and Gamble; and calls upon the Government to clarify the role and contribution of the BNF in advising the Department for Education and Skills, Department for Trade and Industry, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Department of Health on all aspects of Government's agriculture, food, education, health and public health policy.
