That this House commends the British pig meat industry's commitment to high standards of welfare, in particular since the banning of sow stalls and tethers in the UK from 1999; welcomes the launch of the new British Meat Quality Standard for Pork, Bacon, Ham and Sausages; notes that the standard provides an independently audited guarantee of animal welfare, quality control and traceability; and calls on supermarkets and caterers to respond to consumer demand by using the Quality Standard Mark.
