60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF THE CHANNEL ISLANDS

  • Session: 2004-05
  • Date tabled: 23.11.2004
  • Primary sponsor: Cox, Tom
  • Sponsors:

That this House notes that on 9th May 2005 the governments and people of the Channel Islands will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their liberation from German military occupation by British military forces; pays the warmest tribute to the courageous stand for freedom taken by the people of the Channel Islands during their years of occupation when, despite the persecution and hardship they faced, they never lost hope that their liberation would take place; and therefore calls on the Government, and especially the Ministry of Defence, to enter into discussion with representatives of the Channel Islands as to how the United Kingdom will co-operate in celebrating this very special day for the Channel Islands and their people.
