LONDON FIRE SERVICE CUTS

That this House notes the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority's public consultation exercise on the London safety Plan; expresses its concerns on the impact of the closure of Manchester Square Fire Station and the removal of a further 10 fire appliances from the central London area, particularly in light of the current risk of terrorist incidents, on the safety of those who live and work in and visit the area; welcomes the reversal of previous cuts by restoring 10 fire appliances at outer London stations, but believes that this should not be achieved at the expense of fire cover in central London; expresses further concern at the impact on firefighter safety of the proposal to cut a further 128 firefighter jobs from across London, in addition to the 53 jobs that would be lost at Manchester Square; and therefore calls upon the authority not to proceed with these cuts.
