SUPPORT OF BRITISH SPORTSWOMEN

  • Session: 2002-03
  • Date tabled: 17.03.2003
  • Primary sponsor: Tynan, Bill
  • Sponsors:

That this House congratulates Miss Mhairi McKay for her win at the Australian Women's Gold Open; expresses concern that while British women came first, second and fourth in the competition, media coverage in the Guardian and the Independent in no way did justice to the hard work and achievement of these individuals; notes that had Colin Montgomerie and two colleagues attained three out of four top positions it is likely that it would have made the front page; and calls on the Government to support more fully British women's sporting achievements in recognition of the young female talent that this country has to offer.
