REDEVELOPMENT OF GOUROCK STATION

  • Session: 2002-03
  • Date tabled: 08.05.2003
  • Primary sponsor: Cairns, David
  • Sponsors:

That this House deplores the decision of Network Rail to press ahead with its plans to spend millions of pounds to refurbish the current Gourock station; believes that this money would be far better spent as part of the planned wider redevelopment of Gourock town centre; deplores Network Rail's decision effectively to withdraw from ongoing dialogue with the local Council and others; calls on the strategic Rail Authority to intervene and declare its support for the new transport interchange which would be part of the wider redevelopment; and acknowledges that the people of Gourock have been treated poorly by Network Rail, which has a duty to spend taxpayers' money wisely and not squander it on projects merely to satisfy their internal accounting procedures.
