That this House notes with concern that every year thousands of parrots are caught in their natural habitat and shipped over to the United Kingdom for sale to the general public and that many of these are very old and leave their long-term monogamous mate behind; and calls upon the Secretary of State for the Department of Trade and Industry to stop the import of these birds and to encourage the sale of only those parrots which need help in repopulating their indigenous environment.
