30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE WOMEN'S NATIONAL COMMISSION

That this House sends its warmest congratulations to the Women's National Commission on 30 years of ensuring that the views of women in this country are made known to government; notes that following a comprehensive review, the WNC is being modernised and strengthened and currently has more that 100 partners representing eight million women; applauds its role in compiling the National Agenda for Action, following the United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995; welcomes the WNC's role in encouraging more women to take an active role in public life; further welcomes its work on Women @ the Millennium in conjunction with the Equal Opportunities Commission for Great Britain and the Equality Commission in Northern Ireland; and looks forward to the imminent publication of its report to the United Nations on the United Kingdom Government's response to key areas of action on women's human rights.
