FUR FARMING

  • Session: 1998-99
  • Date tabled: 26.01.1999
  • Primary sponsor: Cawsey, Ian
  • Sponsors:

That this House is opposed to the farming of mink for their fur; notes that more than 50,000 mink are killed for their pelts every year on fur farms for the sake of an inessential luxury item; believes that it is impossible to create the space and conditions that mink in the wild would need, such as swimming water and ground for digging, resulting in poor welfare for the animals, such as behavioural problems and self mutilation; congratulates the honourable Member for Liverpool, Garston on the introduction of the Fur Farming (Prohibition) Bill; and urges the Government to support this important animal welfare issue so that the cruel practice of fur farming in the United Kingdom is brought to an end.
