DEVELOPMENTS IN BANGLADESH

    That this House recalls the suffering of the people of Bangladesh during the war of independence which led to three million deaths; welcomes the steps that have been taken to restore democracy in Bangladesh; congratulates the Bangladeshi Prime Minister's efforts to bring peace to the region, in particular the successful negotiation of the Chittagong Hill Tracks Treaty; recognises the need for increased foreign investment particularly in the energy sector; and welcomes continued friendly relations between the British and Bangladeshi governments to promote development in Bangladesh.
