FUTURE OF ST BARTHOLOMEW'S HOSPITAL

  • Session: 1996-97
  • Date tabled: 21.01.1997
  • Primary sponsor: Sedgemore, Brian
  • Sponsors:

That this House notes that St. Bartholomew's Hospital is now, as it has been for the last 900 years, a fully operational hospital dealing with sick people in East London; also notes that this Government has no proposals to close St. Bartholomew's this side of the millenium; further notes that the Labour Party has promised in Government to halt the closure plans and to carry out a review; and therefore believes that plans for the future use of the site at Smithfield using National Lottery funding are both inappropriate and deeply insulting to the patients at the hospital, who include children suffering from cancer, and are such as to create uncertainty and fear amongst those patients as to their future.
