That this House welcomes and values the work of Home-Start, a voluntary organisation helping young families under stress; notes with interest the research done by the University of Leeds showing that Home-Start makes a real difference to families through practical help, advice and support, that statutory workers also value Home-Start because it provides a flexible service without stigma, filling gaps and being complementary to their own work and that the help of Home-Start is often more acceptable to families; notes further that Home-Start works often with families suffering from chronic or acute health problems, depression, isolation, often in bad physical and financial circumstances; and declares that this work is so valuable that Home-Start itself warrants practical help by way of more funding so that the essential work of its co-ordinators does not have to be swallowed up by fund-raising and so that Home-Start can be confident that work started can be continued into the future and extended for the benefit of hard-pressed young families.
