  • Session: 1995-96
  • Date tabled: 07.03.1996
  • Primary sponsor: Chidgey, David
  • Sponsors:

That this House congratulates Thames Valley and Hampshire police forces on their successful prosecution of Anthony Burstow for stalking Tracey Sant and causing her psychological grievous bodily harm; notes with concern the growing number of cases of women subjected to similar offences and the lack of legislation to enable the perpetrators to be effectively prosecuted; further notes that in spite of vigorous campaigning by the Southern Daily Echo and others no action has been taken; and calls on the Government to enact legislation to make stalking a criminal offence, drawing on the experience gained in Australia, Canada and the United States of America.
