That this House is dismayed by the continued illegal occupation of Cyprus by Turkish armed forces, a situation which so far has led to the direct denial of information about the relatives of many British citizens who disappeared during the wrongful invasion of that country by Turkey in 1974; congratulates the Channel 4 television series Secret History and its programme Dead or Alive, shown on 10th February, which told the story of how 1,619 Greek Cypriots captured by invading Turkish forces are still unaccounted for by that nation's authorities; urges the Turkish Government to reveal the fates of these missing persons to alleviate any further suffering to all concerned; notes with interest the disclosures by the former United States Ambassador to Turkey, Mr Crawford, in the aforementioned television programme, including his claim that the current Turkish Ambassador to the United Kingdom is personally aware of information regarding some of the missing persons; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to press immediately for this diplomat to reveal all relevant information on this matter so that their relatives in Britain may at last learn either their whereabouts or their fate.
