ACTION FOR ACCESS TO INFORMATION FOR DEAF, DEAFENED AND HARD OF HEARING PEOPLE

  • Session: 1992-93
  • Date tabled: 27.01.1993
  • Primary sponsor: Bradley, Keith
  • Sponsors:

That this House welcomes the launch of the Louder Than Words Campaign, the RNID's Action for Access to Information for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People on 26th January; believes that deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people face great difficulties in securing the information they need and that society's failure to ensure that relevant information is accessible to Britain's seven and a half million deaf and hard of hearing people often denies deaf people the chance to make informed decisions or choices and can undermine their right to privacy; calls upon organisations and bodies to adopt the campaign's 10 point access charter and to implement its recommendations by installing assistive devices, utilising human aids to communication and providing leaflets and signed and subtitled videos; and calls upon Government Departments to work towards full implementation of the Charter.
