  • Date tabled: 21.11.1989
  • Primary sponsor: Alison, Michael
  • Sponsors:

That this House views with grave concern the continued rise in sales, both covert and overt, of pornographic and obscene material; notes that such publications have a grossly degrading and damaging effect, particularly in their depiction of women and children; notes the increasingly extreme cruelty and violence involved in such material; believes that the anecdotal evidence is now overwhelming that this kind of stimulus is an important factor in encouraging criminal acts affecting innocent victims; and calls on her Majesty's Government to initiate an urgent study of the impact of pornography to update and supplement the limited research currently available and thereafter to implement urgently whatever measures are necessary to protect those who directly or indirectly suffer as a result of such perverting influences.
