Culture, Media and Sport Committee
Press Notice No. 1 of Session 2001-02, dated 23 July 2001
FIRST MEETING, NEW INQUIRY
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee of the House of Commons, which
monitors the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, held its first meeting on
Thursday of last week, 19 July. The Rt Hon Gerald Kaufman MP was elected
Chairman.
The Committee will begin work with a look at the state of play on securing a
national stadium for athletics and the proposal to locate this at Picketts
Lock, North East London (see
http://www.ukathletics.org/london2005/keyfacts.html).
This inquiry will take into account the conclusions of the Carter review of
options for an English National Stadium and follows up three reports of the
former CMS Committee.*
Written evidence is invited from any interested party no later than Monday 1
October. The Committee is aiming to hold oral evidence sessions on 16 and 23
October.
