Youth unemployment statistics - Commons Library Standard Note

743,000 young people aged 16-24 were unemployed in November to January 2015, down 12,000 on the previous quarter and down 181,000 on the previous year.

The unemployment rate (the proportion of the economically active population who are unemployed) for 16-24 year olds was 16.2%, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous quarter and down 3.6 percentage points from the previous year.

Please note: New statistics will be published on 17 April 2015. The House of Commons Library will not be updating this note until after the General Election but the new statistics can be found in the ONS Labour Market Statistical release.
