House of Lords back to business

The House of Lords returns from recess on Monday 12 October. Catch up on the latest legislation news and updates on the work of Lords committees as they investigate public policy issues.

Coming up next week in the Lords

Other legislation currently in progress:

Energy Bill

A bill to define the law around fees for activities relating to oil, gas, carbon dioxide and pipelines. It also covers wind power and the role and function of the Oil and Gas authority.

Committee stage, the chance for line by line scrutiny, continues on 14 October.

Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill

The bill includes proposals for the reform of combined authorities and local authorities. It is intended as the means of delivering local 'devolution deals', agreed between combined authorities and central government, such as the Greater Manchester Agreement.

The bill completed its passage through the Lords on Monday 20 July. It has been sent to the House of Commons for its consideration.

Psychoactive Substances Bill

Proposed legislation will make it an offence to produce, supply, offer to supply, possess with intent to supply, import or export psychoactive substances - any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect.

The bill completed its passage through the Lords on Monday 20 July. It has been sent to the House of Commons for its consideration.
