Coroners and Justice Bill: Lords report stage

27 October 2009

Members of the Lords continued the second day of report stage on the Coroners and Justice Bill on 26 October

Amendments (proposals for change) discussed included clauses (parts) 31-50 of the Bill on subjects covering offences, appeals to the Chief Coroner and persons suffering from diminished responsibility.

Votes (divisions) on amendments to the Bill took place, with the Government losing votes on the handling of military inquests and the abolition of common law defence of provocation.

Further line by line examination of the Bill takes place during report stage and allows Members of the Lords to revisit issues discussed previously. All suggested changes to the Bill can be discussed and votes can take place.

A third day of report stage takes place on 28 October.
