Parliamentary Standards Bill gets Royal Assent

MPs discussed and agreed Lords' amendments to the Parliamentary Standards Bill. The Bill received Royal Assent to become an Act of Parliament and is now law.

Key proposals of the Act include:

  • establishing an Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and a Commissioner for Parliamentary Investigations
  • making provision on salaries and allowances for MPs and their financial interests and conduct
