Debate on supporting business

05 June 2009

Ian Pearson, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, introduced a topical debate in the Commons on the economy and supporting business. MPs who spoke covered a wide variety of issues including bank lending, small and medium sized businesses, unemployment, government enterprise schemes, public spending, protecting manufacturing, and the car industry.

Topical debates take place in the Commons every week. They last for 90 minutes and focus on issues of regional, national or international importance. They were introduced following recommendations made by the Modernisation Committee in 2007.
