Political Parties and Elections Bill: committee stage

01 May 2009

Further discussion of suggested changes to the Political Parties and Elections Bill continued during the second day of committee stage in the House of Lords on 30 April.

Suggested changes made by Members of the Lords covered clauses on political donations, party spending and more.

During Grand Committee (which takes place outside the Lords Chamber), line by line examination of the Bill takes place - as per the committee stage of a Bill in the Lords Chamber. Every amendment suggested is discussed but voting does not take place.

Grand Committee continues on 5 May.

The Bill makes some amendments to the regulation of party funding and election expenditure that is set out in the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
